Candle Safety & Usage Tips
A few simple habits make every burn safer, cleaner and more enjoyable. Please read the safety label on your candle and follow the guidance below.

Before you light
-
Trim the wick to ~5 mm every time. This keeps the flame steady and reduces soot.
-
Place on a heat-resistant, level surface, away from curtains, books, plants and soft furnishings.
-
Avoid draughts from windows, fans or air-con.
-
Clear a safety zone: keep at least 10 cm between burning candles and ensure good ventilation.
-
Keep away from children and pets. Never leave a burning candle within reach.
-
Check the vessel. Do not use if the glass is chipped, cracked or extremely hot from a previous burn.
While burning
-
First burn matters: allow wax to melt evenly to the jar edges (usually 2–3 hours) to prevent tunnelling.
-
Max session 3–4 hours. Longer burns can overheat the container.
-
Stay in sight. Never leave a candle unattended or move it while lit or when wax is liquid.
-
If you see smoking or a large flame, extinguish, trim the wick, and relight once the wax cools.
-
No foreign objects. Keep matches and wick trimmings out of the wax.
Extinguishing
-
Use a snuffer or dip the wick into the melt pool and lift it upright. Avoid blowing, which can splatter wax and create smoke.
-
Never use water to put out a candle.
-
Let it cool for at least 10–15 minutes before moving. Re-centre the wick if needed while the wax is soft.
Aftercare & storage
-
Stop burning when 10–12 mm of wax remains to protect the jar from heat stress.
-
Wipe the rim, replace the lid/dust cover, and store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
-
To reuse the vessel, let the candle fully cool, gently remove leftover wax, and wash with warm soapy water. (Do not pour wax down the drain.)
Troubleshooting
-
Tunnelling: run a longer burn until the melt pool reaches the edges; keep away from draughts.
-
Mushrooming wick: trim to 5 mm before relighting.
-
Excess soot: shorten the wick and improve ventilation.
-
Uneven flame: re-centre the wick once the wax softens.
Sensitivities & household notes
-
If you’re sensitive to fragrance (or pregnant), start with shorter burns and ensure ventilation; discontinue use if irritation occurs.
-
Keep flames away from aquariums and low shelves where pets can brush past.
-
Follow local fire-safety guidance at all times. If a vessel cracks or a flare-up persists, extinguish safely and discontinue use.
